Welcome to our Website. Here you will find the best ways to get rid of fleas in your house.
I have had to deal with my cats bringing fleas into my house and it was a pain to get rid of them. We didn't notice that our cats had fleas, but one day I started to get small rashes while wearing shorts while working at my computer. It also seemed like I was getting small bugs on my legs, because I could feel them moving on the hair on my legs. But every time I look at my legs there was nothing there. What happened was they were landing on my legs but jumping off so fast I could never see them.
We started checking it out, and to our horror we had fleas all over our house. Every time we thought that we got rid of the fleas in our house, they came back a month or so later. It can take a lot of work to get rid of fleas, but you can do it. It took us about 4 months to get rid of fleas in our house, but we learned a lot.
On this website I will give you many different options on removing and killing fleas in your house and your on your dogs and cats.
Step Number One: Do You Have Fleas in Your House?
There are a few clues to watch for when you think you might have fleas in your home. Fleas can jump up to 13 inches and live for about a year. After they eat, they can lay eggs right away, which means it doesn't take long for them to infest you house.
- Small red rash on legs and other parts of your body or your kids bodies. These rashes will itch and can be very small. Fleas love to hang out in your bed, so this is a good sign.
- Your pet, dog or cat is itching and scratching themselves more than normal.
- If your dog or cat has pale gums or lips you should check them out more closely.
- If your cat or dog looks like it has fur falling out and your not sure why, that means you need to check them out. Check your pet's stomach and hind quarters for rashes/small scabs and fleas as this is where they like to hang out.
- Check out where your pet sleeps. Look for black flea feces and white flea eggs as they look like salt and pepper. They are very small, but show up in your pets sleeping area.
- You start to see small black specks on your rugs or furniture and when you try to look closer, it seems like it just disappears. This is because fleas can jump and they move very fast.
- One way I found out is to lay a large white bath towel on my living room carpet and then I walked around it. I could see a few black specks jump onto the white towel.
- I have heard of the "White Cloth Test for Fleas", which means that you take a white cloth and get it wet. Then rub it across your carpet. If you see small red streaks on the cloth, then that means that you have flea feces in your rug, which means that you have lots of fleas in your house.
Step Number Two: How to Get Rid of Fleas In House?
There are many things you need to do right away and some of them to keep working on in the next few days, weeks and even months after you have found out that you have fleas in your house. You need to make sure you do all of these steps because if you don't, you will end up getting reinfested over and over again.
You can get fleas in your house by a few different ways. The most common way is to have your cat or dog, catch the fleas from other outside animals. Some people are surprised that they have fleas, even when they don't have pets. What happens is they or one of their friends got fleas on there clothes and walked into their house. It only takes a few to infest your whole house.
Remember - At the first sign of fleas, you need to start working on killing them all.
Below is a great list on what to do to get rid of fleas in your house.
-
If you have a cat or dog, you need to start with them first thing.
- Some people try "Flea Combs", but I don't think that's a great way to go. You need to kill the live fleas by using a web flea comb and dropping the comb with fleas into a bowl of water with dish soap in it. The soap stops the fleas from jumping out, as fleas can jump out of plain water. This is not a very good option as it only kills some of the fleas on your pet and it's hard to get them all.

What works best for your pet to buy a topical flea treatment for pets. These products are very safe and effective to use. You normally give your pet one dose and within 12 hours it kills 99 percent of the fleas on your pet. You normally give your pet one dose every month. When you are dealing with an flea infestation you need to make sure you are protecting your pets for the next few months to be able to get rid of fleas. These products also kills and keeps ticks off your pets.
Make sure you get the right product for your cat or dog. You need to know the weight of your pet and that tells you which version to buy.
For some smaller pets like rabbits or guinea pigs you might want to take with your vet to make sure you give them the right dosage.
When you apply Frontline or Advantage make sure you apply it to the back of your pets lower neck so they can't reach it with their mouth. You want to part their hair and apply directly to the skin of their neck. Remember that you shouldn't give your pet a bath for at least 48 hours after you apply the treatment to your pet.

Now you need to deal with the inside of your house.

You will need to do a combination of most of the things below to get rid of fleas in house. Some of these things you will need to do many times. It's a pain, but there is no way around it.
- Remove all your bedding and wash with hot water to kill any fleas.
- Vacuum all rugs, drapes and carpets. One tip I have heard of is to cut a small part of a flea and tick collar for pets and put it into your vacuum bag before you start vacuuming. Make sure you throw outside the vacuum bag right after you are done,as the fleas will get out of the bag easily and right back into your house.
- One way a lot of people try is Flea Foggers. The main thing about foggers is you need to follow the directions on the can. They work best if you put one in each room. You need to leave while they are working for 2 or more hours. READ the directions. Close all windows in house before you start the foggers. They are toxic so don't breathe the fumes. Take out any animals of the house. Most are flammable so make sure you don't have any pilot lights burning. When you come home make sure you open all the windows and let the house air out before you enter for any amount of time. You will need to vacuum again and wash any open tables and surfaces to make sure they are clean.
I used foggers when I had fleas the first time and had to do it three times before the fleas were gone from my house. It did work but took a few months to stop the infestation. The fleas would be gone for a few weeks and then end up coming back.
From my research Raid 81590 3-Count Concentrated Deep Reach Fogger
is one of the best Flea Foggers on the market right now.
- Another product that is safer for your pets and family is called Fleabusters Rx for Fleas Plus. This is a power that you sprinkle on your rugs and inside your chairs and sofa cushions. Make sure you get along the wall edges, as fleas like to hang out in these areas. Also make sure you move your furniture and sprinkle some under them. You then need to brush it into the carpet to make sure it go's deep into the carpet fibers. After you are done, you will need to vacuum the excess out of the carpet and rugs.
- Flea Traps are another way to catch fleas and kill them. One of the best Flea Traps is called Victor M230 Ultimate Flea Trap. You can also take a white bowl with dish soap and water in it and put it where you have seen the fleas. If you can put a small light above the bowl at night and this will attract the fleas and they will fall into the bowl and die.
- Vacuuming is very important when trying to get rid of fleas in house. You may need to vacuum every day for a few weeks. This sounds like a lot of work and it is, but this is one of the most important things you need to do. If you have help, get everyone to take turns and that will make it easier. Just remember after every vacuuming you need to take the vacuum bag out and put it outside.
